International collaboration

Our Energy Limited and EPEX SPOT are pleased to announce their collaboration to roll out EPEX SPOT’s Localflex solution in New Zealand.

Localflex will enable Electricity Distribution Businesses (EDBs) and their emerging Distribution System Operator (DSO) teams to connect with Flexibility Service Providers (FSPs) via an auction-based trading platform. FSPs will sign up and register any resource capable of modulating its demand or generation to offer flexibility, contributing to a more affordable, reliable and sustainable energy system.

Localflex will:
● provide visibility of EDB needs by location, over time and with associated price signals;
● enable greater and more diverse participation;
● simplify and streamline contractual engagement; and
● establish open, consistent and transparent ways of viewing and transacting local flexibility.

Our Energy will have primary responsibility for market development and market operation of Localflex in New Zealand. EXPEXSPOT will be supporting Our Energy with its technology and market design know-how on local flexibility markets.

Our Energy and EXPEXSPOT thank Ara Ake for its support in helping enable this collaboration that will see a globally recognised and first-for-NZ solution accelerated and rolled out during 2025 and 2026. The first EDBs to join Localflex’s rollout in New Zealand will be revealed soon, as will opportunities for FSPs to register and offer their flexibility.
